At River City Health & Wellness, we provide individualized, evidence-based, one-on-one pelvic health physical therapy for people of all genders. As a pelvic floor physical therapist and board-certified clinical sexologist, Dr. Kayla Thompson integrates physical therapy and sexual health counseling to get to the root cause of symptoms, restore function, and help you feel more confident, functional and fully connected to your health.

What This Includes

  • Personalized treatment plans for bladder, bowel, sexual health, abdominal, and pelvic pain conditions

  • Care for sexual health concerns including pain with intimacy, desire changes, performance concerns, and confidence

  • Support for pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and life transitions such as menopause

  • Training for athletes and active individuals focused on core function, pressure management, and return to performance

  • Education, counseling, and long-term strategies for symptom management, prevention, and improved sexual and pelvic health

  • Common pelvic health conditions treated:

    • Pelvic pain (including pain with intimacy)

    • Urinary or bowel leakage, urgency, or frequency

    • Constipation or difficulty with bowel movements

    • Pregnancy and postpartum recovery

    • Core weakness, diastasis recti, and return to exercise

    • Athletic performance and pressure management

  • Common clinical sexology & sexual health conditions treated:

    • Low libido or desire discrepancy

How to Access Pelvic Health Physical Therapy

Pelvic Health Physical Therapy is offered à la carte only and is not included in memberships. Physical Therapy appointments can be booked individually or purchased in packages with discounted rates. Members receive 10% off all a la carte sessions.

  • No referral needed! In Virginia, patients have direct access to physical therapy, which means you can schedule an appointment without seeing another provider first. If you have any questions about your specific situation, feel free to reach out - we’re happy to help.

  • Your care is provided by our experienced pelvic health physical therapist, Dr. Kayla Thompson, who tailors each session to your individual needs. Learn more about Dr. Kayla Thompson here.

  • River City Health & Wellness is a fee-for-service practice, meaning we do not bill your insurance. However, many clients with out-of-network benefits are able to get partial reimbursement by submitting claims to their insurance providers. We can also accept payment via FSA or HSA.

  • Yes! Upon request, we can provide a detailed invoice (Superbill) you can submit to your insurance. Reimbursement depends on your specific out-of-network benefits.

  • Yes! Physical therapy is a qualified medical expense, and you’re welcome to use your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for your sessions.

  • Your first session includes a thorough evaluation, movement assessment, and hands-on treatment. We take the time to listen and have an in-depth conversation so we can clearly understand your history, goals, and any challenges you’re experiencing. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your condition, treatment plan, and actionable next steps.

  • All sessions are 60 minutes. This allows time for personalized care, in-depth treatment, and meaningful progress at every visit.

  • We recommend wearing comfortable, athletic clothing that allows you to move freely. Depending on the area being treated, you may want to wear or bring items like shorts or a tank top to allow your therapist better access for assessment and treatment.

  • Your appointment time is reserved just for you! In order to provide the best care possible, we require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee to the card on file. The first late cancellation will result in a charge of $50, and the second will be $100.
